Disclosure added: the article now states that Akiya X is a commercial partner, and partner links across the site are marked as sponsored.
Retired the former news section, which republished summaries of third-party news feeds rather than original reporting. Its pages now return “410 Gone”.
The guide to reading the births-and-deaths chart described a four-line comparison that is not on the page. It now describes only the published two-line chart.
Updated stale or incorrect visitor information: IC card availability, tax-free shopping procedure, the JR Pass, subway fares, the departure tax rise to ¥3,000 from 1 July 2026, and several cultural details.
The Kanji of the Year history was wrong: 2018 and 2020 showed characters that never won, 2021 and 2024 named the wrong character, and 1995–2019 were shifted by a year. All 31 entries (1995–2025) were rebuilt from the Japan Kanji Aptitude Testing Foundation’s own records, and unsourced explanations were removed.
